'Returning Steam to the Avon Valley'
The Avon Valley Railway is more than just a train ride, offering a whole
new experience for some or a nostalgic memory for others. Take a trip on
a steam train into the scenic Avon Valley, midway between Bristol and
Bath, and catch a glimpse of the past when steam was king. Experience
the unique sights, sounds and smells of a bygone age. See the trains
being lovingly restored and find out about the work to extend the line
towards Bath at this working museum dedicated to the glorious days of
steam.
Following on from last year's successful open days, 2003 sees steam
trains running every Wednesday and Thursday during August until the end
of October, from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm. Just the ticket for a family or
group outing. Steam trains will also be running every Sunday and Bank
Holiday from Easter until the end of September, from 11.00 am to 4.00
pm. The station, buffet, and toilets are open every day from 10.30 am to

whilst riding on the train at Christmas.

The BAC was formed in 1990 to record the achievements and contributions
to aviation, aerospace and other branches of engineering of the Bristol
Aeroplane Company and its successors at Filton and Patchway. The story
began in February 1910 when the chairman of the Bristol Tramways and
Carriage Company, Sir George White, decided to enter aviation. BAC moved
to Kemble in 1996. In a large wartime hangar on this active airfield it
has assembled a comprehensive collection of exhibits setting out the
continuous development of military and civil aircraft, helicopters,
guided missiles, aero engines and space exploration. It is hoped to
re-locate the collection to Filton in South Gloucestershire

Crowned with a balustrade and with fine views over its ancient deer
park, Dyrham was built between 1691 and 1702 for William Blathwayt,
William III's Secretary at War and Secretary of State. The rooms have
changed little since Blathwayt furnished them and their contents are
recorded in his housekeeper's inventory. There are many fine textiles
and paintings, as well as items of blue-and-white delftware, reflecting
the contemporary taste for Dutch fashions. Restored Victorian domestic
rooms open, including kitchen, bells passage, bakehouse, larders,
tenants' hall and Delft-tiled dairy. Car park has been relocated to the
East Lodge, and a free bus now takes visitors to and from the house,
thereby restored to its original, car-free, setting. Audio tours of the
house, colour souvenir guidebook and CD-ROM available to purchase
