Do you travel by Train?
Are you interested in helping to improve Patchway Station?
Like many of the local stations in the greater Bristol area, Patchway Station looks somewhat neglected - improvements are needed.
What should be done to provide a safer, more welcoming environment at the Station?
There are new notice boards which can be used to advertise local community events; and the train operatior, First Great Western, will soon be installing a new push button help and information point, which will connect straight through to the train control centre - and a human being will answer - a great improvement on the current automatic message system.
But more is needed, and this is where local station users and the local community come in. Elsewhere in the country many local stations have o group of "station friends" who help look after the station. So why not a grop for Patchway? At some stations their role is to check the station at regular intervals, report problems such as graffiti or broken light bulbs on a hot-line to First Great Western, and look after the community notice board. At other stations, support groups have arranged for plants and shrubs to brighten the platforms.
The Severnside Community Rail Partnership is a not-for-profit organization: our aim is to identify and implement measures to encourage the local train services, and over the next year the emphasis will be to wokr with local communities to see what improvements can be made to local stations. We are working with South Gloucestershire Council, the local Councils and First Great Western to improve Patchway Station.
But we need local support
The inaugural meeting of Patchway Station Working Group will be held at Stoke Gifford Parish Council, The Community Hall, Little Stoke Park, South Glos. If you would like to participate please contact Sarah Collins, Severnside Community Rail Partnership Officer on 0779 556 2311 or e-mail Severnside@gmail.com
Your support will be very welcome |
